Striborg - Spiritual Catharsis (Re-release) Displeased Records file under black/pagan metal
Sir Blastalot: Striborg is a one man project from Tasmania that gained quite a cult status after four demos and thirteen releases, and because of that reason I guess that a lot of his fans will hate me after reading this review, since I am not fond of Striborg to say the least.
Striborg was recommended to me multiple times by multiple persons, but I never dared to check this band out since I could imagine already how atrocious this band would be, and when I inserted this re-release of ‘Spiritual Catharsis’ (original release in 2004) into my beloved stereo I all too soon discovered I was right! “KRRRRZZZWIIIIWOOIIIIINGPEEEEP!” That was the first thing I heard when I inserted this disc. I can imagine that there are people somewhere on this planet who find this stuff amazing and all, but I find this CD completely useless. Well, I do not want to lie now, I could always use it as an ashtray or a frisbee or something, but I don’t think it was re-released with that goal in mind. Oh well, I just might be not grim and kvlt enough.
To me Striborg is nothing more than another black metal amateur who tries to hide the fact that he lacks the ability to play with a noisy ambience of reverb, feedback and what else. It surprises me every single time that there are people who dare to release this kind of junk, I would be greatly embarrassed, what a garbage! Fans of minimal and not talented black metal: knock yourself out!
