Roncsipar - Antimonumentum Grindhead Records file under different metal
Jasper: “What the f*ck?!” and again “what the f*ck?!” Do I really hear a Hungarian sing “Erasmus, Erasmus, Rotterdam Erasmus”?? Am I going insane? But even after a day of letting the record rest and listening again completely sober gives the same result. I have once again encountered a piece of very freaky metal. The lyric I heard is from the song ‘Rotterdami Erasmus’ by the Hungarian duo Roncsipar and it even means something else than a big Dutch city and its patron saint.
Some things are best preserved as idea only. As a concept “psychedelic stoner industrial with Hungarian vocals” sounds pretty adventurous. With the idea behind ‘Antimonumentum’ little is wrong, yet the actual music turns out somewhat disappointing. The guitars in combination with synths and a tormented Hungarian whisper do not form the problem. At times the record even serves its purpose as a sonic acid trip. The aspect that starts to irritate after a while however is the medieval drum computer they use. It gives the record such an unprofessional “basement recording” feeling that you might spontaneously get a bad trip from it. That can never be the meaning of the record. Hopefully these guys still make some money with this record. If they succeed in buying a new drummer with it I am willing to give their new effort a try.
