Lunar Eclipse - Morbid Visions
TWS - Source Of Deluge Records

file under Death metal / Grindcore

Lunar Eclipse - Morbid VisionsMenno: Lunar Eclipse is one of the many bands vegetating in the German underground. Ever since 1996 they have been working on their music which means they’ve just celebrated their tenth anniversary. The majority of the bands celebrate this with releasing some meaningless crap such as a ‘best of’ of a low budget DVD. Lunar Eclipse, however, knows how to do it and gives their fans the only suitable gift; a new record.

It’s entitled ‘Morbid Visions’ (how original) and contains ten tracks. According to the press-bio, the old material is comparable to Bolt Thrower and Six Feet Under. Bolt Thrower is an acceptable comparison, but the primitive death metal from Barnes & co is something I’m not really hearing back in Lunar Eclipse’s music. ‘Morbid Visions’ also has some of the later Amon Amarth woven in the songs; it never gets furious and combines brutality with melody here and there. Of course is Johan Hegg what we miss the most on such occasions. Speaking about singers, Lunar Eclipse’s vocalist, Rolf Quast-Janssen, is the weakest link on this album. His monotonous singing style really lacks power and isn’t able to convince me. I understand that you want to make your lyrics understandable but I believe this is a privilege for Obituary or Death’s vocal styles. The record is recorded entirely by the band itself and I have to admit that they’ve done a pretty good job. The guitars sounds a bit familiar but lets not get bitchy. ‘Morbid Visions’ is a fine piece of music and outgrows the majority of the German mediocre death metal scene.
