Dauntless - Execute The Fact Firebox Records file under death metal / grindcore
Richard G.: After being in the demo stage for more than ten years, the Fins of Dauntless have finally managed to turn out a debut record. The years of practice can be heard on ‘Execute The Fact’ as it sounds mature and well thought-out for a debut album. Dauntless’ version of death/thrash metal has obviously had the time to ripen.
Their sound is best described as Slayer doing hardcore covers. The tempo is consistently high and they alternate freely between thrash rhythms and old school death metal patterns. The hardcore bits are the shouting vocal style (used just as much as the good old grunt) and the unbelievably hard sound. In order to impress us even more there’s a constant echo-effect on the bass-drum which sadly gets rather annoying as the record progresses. On top of that there are only minimal differences between the songs which make that half an hour of Dauntless is a pretty demanding experience. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the intention of these Fins, they just (still) need to work a bit on the execution of their ideas.
