Onslaught - Killing Peace
Candlelight

file under speed / thrash metal

Onslaught - Killing PeaceKoen: In last month’s Lords Of Metal issue, guitarist Nige Rockett provided us with a small update on the new Onslaught album entitled ‘Killing Peace'. According to him this “is a real aggressive album, definitely the most intense Onslaught album to date, it runs for 42 minutes and contains nine new tracks. It's very fast, very heavy, no clean guitars, no bullshit, just massive riffs and offensive lyrics. Everything is so loud and in your face just how metal should be………”.

I’ve been listening to ‘Killing Peace’ over and over again the past few days and I must admit Mr. Rockett has spoken the truth once and for all! After a long wait (the previous album was released in 1989!) this is exactly what I’ve been expecting: a ferocious thrash metal album that doesn’t sound old fashioned at all. The riffing is intense, Sy Keeler’s vocals are stronger than before and producer Andy Sneap did a terrific job, giving this album a belligerent sound.

Sure, I’m not the most impartial reviewer in heavy metal music when it comes to Onslaught because I’ve been an addict since the ‘Power From Hell’ era, I’m the first to admit that. Nevertheless, I’m sure each and every old and new fashioned speed metal freak will adore this new album, especially those who like the faster Metal Church and Sabbat (you notice the connection with Andy Sneap?) songs. I’m convinced 2007 embarks the dawning of a new day for Onslaught. Killer album!
