Hacride - Amoeba Listenable file under different metal
Richard G.: Watch out! A new head master has risen in the French school of modern metal. The previous years have provided us with some technical treats with releases of Yyrkoon, Scarve and Gojira, amongs others, but the next big thing has arrived! A year and a half ago Hacride’s debut album ’Deviant Current Signal’ already created some expectations for their new release, and now it has finally arrived in the form of ‘Amoeba’.
The influences are still recognisable and there: Meshuggah’s rhythmic, the immense and dense walls of sound of Strapping Young Lad/Devin Townsend and here and there some riffs that hint at the mighty Opeth. But Hacride is far more than the sum of all these influences. The material is adventurous, progressive, tight as a gnat’s chuff and extreme. Yet they never create the impression that it is all about their technical abilities. The songs breathe and stay songs, despite some unexpected straying from the main paths of the songs. The balance is kept always and the listener is not scared away by layers upon layers of big riffing; just try and discover the multiple acoustic guitar passages. The track ‘Zambra’, a cover of the neo-flamenco band ‘Ojos De Brujo’ is simply brilliant. Think Meshuggah with Spanish guitars and a Mediterranean rapper?!?! When in this day and age a band succeeds in producing a sound never heard before, then you truly are genius. All hail the experiment, all hail Hacride!
