Destynation - Rising Up
Sonic Age Records

file under heavy / power metal

Destynation - Rising UpFons: Sweden’s Destynation was founded three years ago from the ashes of Eternia, a power metal band that recorded one single album. With a new singer, Anders Haggkvist, Destynation recorded their debut album ‘Rising Up’ which was released on Sonic Age Records, last April. The info on the back side of my promotional copy says, Destynation’s music falls in the category of Hammerfall, Dream Evil, Europe and Nocturnal Rites. I could not discover any Hammerfall influences, but there are lots of these typical ‘happy’ Edguy tunes to be found, though. Well, the influences are there, but unfortunately, the band never reaches the same height as the before mentioned acts.

Destynation’s well thought, typical Swedish power metal is performed by excellent musicians, but not one single tune has not been presented on one of their heroes classic albums. The songs are, without any exception, of excellent quality, and with a little bit more own identity, ‘Rising Up’ would have been a classic album.

Now, this is not much more than a nice album of an excellent band, which will especially please all those hungry Dream Evil fans, desperately waiting for a new album of their heroes. Stealing should be punished, but Destynation has so much musical skills, that I will give them the benefit of the doubt. That means, in spite of my criticism, that I will rate this album quite high, demanding the band to record an original album next time!
