Gorelord - Norwegian Chainsaw Massacre
Red Stream

file under death metal / grindcore

Gorelord - Norwegian Chainsaw MassacreRichard G.: Frediablo has barely finished work on one project and he already comes up with a new one. Last October he showed us his love of true black metal with Hemnur and now he already gives us the new album of his gory horror death metal project Gorelord. As you might deduce from the title ‘Norwegian Chainsaw Massacre’, Frediablo used the bloodiest horror movies as an inspiration. In the case of Gorelord, this leads to nine brutality defining, heavy as hell death metal tracks.

Fred makes smart use of (a lack of) speed, which makes that for once you’re not blown away by the sheer pace, but rather by the crushing loudness of the material. It also makes the few fast-paced bits even more impressive. The riffs on the album are about as brutal as brutal can get and I really do wonder how many guitars the good man has shredded to pieces in the studio. The greatest thing about this album is that Frediablo manages to capture sheer brutality in a collection of very varied songs. The ominous ‘Man Of Shit’, with its eerie ending, illustrates this last point best. The record ends with an ambient soundscape of twelve minutes, which gives you the opportunity to ease your senses and to process everything you just experienced. And believe me, you really need it.
