Cataract - Kingdom Metal Blade file under speed / thrash metal
Ralph: It is almost a year and a half ago that Cataract came up with their last album ‘Killing Tool’. A heavy album that marked a mix between thrash and hardcore. The band got some great reviews, toured a lot and now there’s a follow up: ‘Kingdom’. Well let’s see if the touring and other experiences have paid off.
After the instrumental intro ‘Kingdom’s Rise’, the real opener ‘War of Cultures’ kicks in. Slayer is - just like on the previous album - a big influence. The main things that Cataract does differently are the sound and the hardcore touch, although they do it less then on the previous album. ‘On This Graveyard’ could have featured on a Slayer album! The album, however, sounds good and the tracks are well constructed, but it lacks a sound of its own to be honest. I thought the band was still searching for that on ‘Killing Ground’ but they prove that they made a choice to be Slayers European brother on ‘Kingdom’. Too bad because we already have a Slayer and besides that I think these guys are fully capable of creating an own unique sound.
