Horned Almighty - The Devil’s Music : Songs Of Death And Damnation

Horned Almighty - The Devil’s Music : Songs Of Death And DamnationKoen: “Horned Almighty holds no agenda, dogmatic nor political. We perform the devil’s music!” This is what is stated clearly on the bands website. The horde was founded in 2002 by S. (formerly Smerte) and Hellpig (Formerly Soth) and arose from the ashes of former constellations under such names as Mareridt and Tronraner. A four track demo with programmed drums, called ‘Hellhordes’, was recorded and made in a very limited quantity, thus not obtaining any feedback.

A year went by and contact was established with a drummer called Harm. Rehearsing began for yet another demo, but before releasing it, some labels were approached with the material and Infernus Rex from the Netherlands released the material as a seven inch EP called ‘In The Year Of Our Horned Lord’ in 2004. At the same time, Horned Almighty had their first live performances and the Italian label called Hearse Records released a split LP with Finnish Sargeist entitled ‘To The Lord Our Lives’ that exact year. Moribund Records did the CD version. Also in 2004, the first full-length effort ‘Black Metal Jesus’ saw the light of day.

The sophomore album ‘The Devil’s Music : Songs Of Death And Damnation’ has become a fine black metal album. After a glorious intro, Horned Almighty is splitting your skull open with great mid paced down tuned songs such as ‘Glorification’, ‘Repentance’ and ‘Arrogance Of The Wicked’. There are also some Celtic Frost and Pentacle influences interwoven in these pestiferous tracks. What about the “Oeh, I said Oeh!!!!!!!!” yells in ‘Malicious Mockery’? Great, fucking great!
