Backyard Babies - People Like People Like People Like Us

 Sjak: I must honestly admit that I didn’t really start dancing on the table of joy when I found this record of Backyard Babies in my mailbox with the request to review it for the new Lords Of Metal edition. In most cases this rock and roll with a metal edge type of style that this band seems to be making is not really my cup of tea. When, after some hesitation at first, I decided to go and listen to this album and heard the title track I was even more convinced that this wasn’t meant for me, what a shitty song!
However, my negative feeling (fed by my biased attitude towards this musical style) started to disappear slowly while listening to the rest of this album and I even started to appreciate these catchy songs. In particular ‘Cockblocker Blues’, ‘Dysfunctional Professional’, ‘We Go A Long Way Back’ and ‘Roads’ were responsible for the fact that I had the courage to listen to the album for another few times and with each listening experience my appreciation for this record grew. This is not to say that I will become a real fan of the Backyard Babies, but this ‘People Like People Like People Like Us’ has been more to my liking than I’ve anticipated for. So you see that it a prerequisite to be and stay open minded at all times.
