Avian - From The Depths Of TimeTwan: As we all know, music is very often used to transfer emotions. In the case of Avian this is, as happens more often than not with the prog metal genre, not an emotion as such but more a state of mind. The message here seems to be "don't whine, but start playing." I am talking about the debut album 'From The Depths Of Time' by American band Avian, that was founded in 2002. Founder and guitar player Yan Leviathan claims to have been inspired by a visit to the well-known festival ProgPower and that's definitely something you can hear.

This is a piece of uncomplicated work, to put it blunt. Pleasingly straightforward and containing smooth riffs. Technically this is a well-thought-out work, but the expected solos are never amazingly impressive. The album is reasonably well produced, although I personally think that the vocals, done by Lance King, could've been more noticeably present in the mix. I don't expect this album ever to be anything special; for that it never rises out above average. It's a nice record to sit down and listen to, but never is it anything special. Hopefully the folks from Avian will try to be a bit more daring in a next album.
