Paul Speckmann - Masterpieces
Twilight

file under death metal / grindcore

Paul Speckmann - MasterpiecesKoen: Paul Speckmann is collectively known as one of the most influential and creative human beings in death metal history. He is and was bassist and singer in copious bands such as Warcry, Deathstrike, Funeral Bitch, White Cross, Speckmann Project, Martyr, Krabhator, Abomination and of course Master. The man released several first-rate CD’s all through the years. I especially adore the Abomination ‘Debut’ and ‘Tragedy Strikes’ as well as Masters ‘Master’ and ‘On The Seventh Day God Created … Master’ albums. In recent times, Germany’s Twilight Vertrieb has decided to release a “Best Of Paul Speckmann” CD under the moniker of ‘Masterpieces’.

The CD presents a collection of music from Speckmann’s bands and projects throughout the last twenty years. Speckmann himself was responsible for picking the tracks, but to me it’s kinda strange that there’s no Krabathor songs on ‘Masterpieces’ and also my all-time favourite Master track ‘What Kind Of God’ did not end up on the album. In addition to that, I expected the songs to be in chronological order, but maybe I’m just narrow minded about that fact.

The first two songs on this CD are brand-new tracks, taken from the new Master album ‘Four More Years Of Terror’ which is due November 21st 2005. These songs fucking kill and make me wanna buy this sick shit instantaneously. The third song is a recording from a punk project Solutions which Paul executed in Tilburg (Holland) after a 1999 European tour with Malevolent Creation and Krabathor. The other songs are taken from Speckmann’s illustrious albums. If you are a Speckmann aficionado like myself, I think this album is a waste of time and money. If you’re not familiar with the Four String Demolisher, I suggest you go out and buy the first Master and Abomination albums in preference to ‘Masterpieces’. This is the track list for the album:

01) ‘The Line Too Kill’ – Master (from ‘Four More Years Of Terror’)
02) ‘He’ll Probably Win’ – Master (from ‘Four More Years Of Terror’)
03) ‘Fatso’ – Solutions
04) ‘Blood For Oil’ – Abomination (from ‘Tragedy Strikes’)
05) ‘Pull The Plug’ – Abomination (from ‘Tragedy Strikes’)
06) ‘Funeral Bitch’ – Master (from ‘Master’)
07) ‘Mangled Dehuminization’ – Master (from ‘Master’)
08) ‘Kill With Me’ – Martyr (from ‘Murder: The End Of The Game’)
09) ‘Crooked Teeth’ – Martyr (from ‘Murder: The End Of The Game’)
10) ‘Follow Your Savior’ – Master (from ‘Follow Your Savior’)
11) ‘The Truth’ – Deathstrike (from ‘Fuckin’ Death’)
12) ‘Re-Entry And Destruction’ – Deathstrike (from ‘Fuckin’ Death’)
13) ‘Cut Through The Filth’ – Master (from ‘Death Is Just The Beginning II’ compilation)
14) ‘Remorseless Poison’ – Speckmann (from ‘Speckmann Project’)
15) ‘Heathen’ – Master (from ‘On The Seventh Day God Created … Master’)
16) ‘Latitudinarian’ – Master (from ‘On The Seventh Day God Created … Master’)
