Sorath - Vivimos En Perpetua Guerra
Metal Breath Production

file under black/pagan metal

Sorath - Vivimos En Perpetua GuerraKoen: I really don’t know why we received this cd to be reviewed in 2005, because it was released in 2003 and it’s not a re-release. The band just released a split ep ‘Saros’ with Trollech (on Pigeonshit Agency), thus it would be more appropriate to review that fucker instead of this one. Sorath was formed in 1993 and consists of Ottar (drums), Admirerforestae (guitars and vocals), Francis (guitars) and Mar Markion (bass and vocals). After two demo’s (‘666…To Awakening’ and ‘Voices’), two splits (‘Matache Chavala’ with Unclean and ‘Enlightment’ with Isacaaru) and two cd’s (‘Gnosis’ and ‘Omnes Gii Gentium Daemonia’), ‘Vivimos En Perpetua Guerra’ is the third full length.

Looking at the pictures in the booklet, I expected a Rammstein or Illdisposed clone or even a New York hardcore band, but this cd is filled with aggressive yet melodic and fast black metal. The vocals vary from typical black metal vocals to screams and are not annoying at all. Finally, the production is clean and the artwork will remind you of the classic death metal bands. The problem with this Czech band however, is that all songs have the same basic structure: fast part, slower part, faster part, bridge and so on and that’s a bit boring. The cd definitely is enjoyable, but some more variation would be welcome. I’m looking forward to review that new split seven inch to see if progression in this issue is made.
