Quiet Riot - Live & Rare Vol. 1 Demolition Records file under hardrock / aor
Richard V.: Few rock musicians seem to have a feeling of shame and those who enjoyed some success earlier in their career, have absolutely none. Quiet Riot scored a million seller in the USA with the musically below par “Metal Health” and did pretty good business with successor “Condition Critical”. Till today the band is still reaping the grapes of that success. There are artistic achievements worth mentioning, let alone progress. Compilations, live recordings, concerts on state fairs and parties, nothing is beyond bands like Quiet Riot to make a few bucks.
“Live & Rare” is no exception. The album contains live recordings that have been gathering dust in the basement and should have stayed there. The sound quality is so bad that it would even scare a Tasmanian devil. To make things worse Kevin Dubrow’s hysterical screams to get the crowd going have been not been edited. The 3 bonus tracks, all demo’s for “Metal Health” and with guitar player Carlos Cavazo (successor of Randy Rhoads), are unremarkable and have those typical out of tune vocals. “Live & Rare” is a completely redundant release. No volume 2 please. Rating: 25/100 (details)
