 Ferdi: The group with the most remarkable bandname of the last couple of months is The Eagles Of Death Metal. The story goes that the bandmembers were in the pub when a drunken man started talking to them about music. Apparently the intoxicated guy claimed that the group Poison was one of the heaviest bands in the world. In fact, they were the Eagles of death metal. A new bandname was born.
Eagles Of Death Metal is the new band formed around former Kyuss and Queens Of Of The Stoneage-guitarist Josh Homme, who handles the drumsticks in this band. With his new group he makes something completely else: lo-fi guitarrock with a wide range of influences, ranging from rockabilly and boogie to stoner and glam. The varied vocals are a definite plus. The rock of these Eagles is undermined by a terrible production and weak drumming. Indeed, a demosound is not exactly the thing you would expect from a band of the drummer of two of the most hardrocking bands on the planet.
The Eagles Of Death Metal’s debut-cd is currently selling like hot cakes in the underground rockscene. That has to be because of the connection with Queens and Kyuss, because I cannot imagine that the music we are given here is the reason for a lot of sales. The songs may be okay-ish and aptly performed, but they are completely unoriginal and horrible to listen to because of the mediocre production.
