Pim B.: Hour Of 13 has made quite a name in a relatively short time span with their brand of old-school doom. After the self-titled debut on Shadow Kingdom Records thuis duo split up for a while but just before ‘The Ritualist’ multi-instrumentalist Chad Davis (Father Befouled, ex-Demoncy and numerous other acts) and singer Phil Swanson (Seamount, Vestal Claret and Upwards of Endtime) got back together again.
This second CD, that also is available on vinyl, is filled with doom metal with references to groundbreaking acts like Pentagram, Pagan Altar and Witchfinder General. So, classic styled doom metal. The songs written by Davis are very good and Hour Of 13 definitely is one of the better contemporary bands that keep that old flame burning. The characteristic vocals of Phil Swanson, who delivers the occult lyrics, fits the music perfectly. In short, this is a gem for fans of traditional doom, but also those who dig occult rock like The Devil’s Blood will like this.
