We Are Idols - We Are Idols
Get By Records

file under punk / hardcore

We Are Idols - We Are IdolsRamon: With a name that is so full of irony like We Are Idols you are sure to make a fine entry in the punk scene. Except with those short-sighted blow faggots who cannot see the irony, due to a personality disorder that makes them take themselves too seriously. If there is one thing I can remember from the scene, is that true punks usually find nothing worse than being associated with metal. Which in a way is very narrow minded too. Besides having a couple of elements in common, it is quite diffident to categorically exclude a whole genre. I always tend to say “every shitty band has the right to have at least one good song”. Funny thing is though, when you read what I just wrote, it seems as if though I am very open minded to different styles. Which is partly true, but ironically there are a few styles that I tend to dislike a little earlier than others, which are pop, dance, reggae, rap and… punk. Even though a great number of my heroes found great inspiration in punk. So it is up to We Are Idols to force me to listen with a new objective ear, in order to chance my view.

Within there are obviously countless sub genres. We Are Idols categorize themselves as Rock/Punk/Big Beat. I assume that all the knowledge they have of was in hindsight, considering the fact that in the seventies and eighties there was not so much tolerance to music that stood up against the establishment, in their home country Poland. So, there must emerge a mixture of styles, and indeed, there are moments they tend more towards muscle rock and they have big melodic passages too. And just as with metal, vocal qualities are more an extra decoration than a solo-instrument. There is no possible ground for me to deny that there is some musical quality in the band. Especially the guitars break away from the typical three chord raging and that is the biggest factor of recommendation for the band. And actually the only one, the singer is really too replaceable and the compositions are too meagre that there is little to enjoy. Although the lyrics are not bad. But don’t stare yourselves blind on my verdict and do click on the link.
