Sjak: Simultaneously with the “new” Rick Springfield album ‘Venus In Overdrive’ Frontiers Records has decided to also release this ‘From The Vault’ album, which is a compilation of songs that Rick Springfield has written and recorded with guitar player/producer Jeff Silverman between 1986 and 1999. Some of the thirteen tracks on offer here have later appeared on an official Rick Springfield album, while there are also a number of tracks that were truly unreleased until now. Nice initiative, but the material doesn’t really do something to me. It’s rather straightforward pop rock with above average vocals, but for me it’s not really memorable stuff.
I assume that the Rick Springfield fans will be really pleased with this, but for me it’s just too soft and not entertaining enough to be very positive about this. I think that this album will only appeal to the real Rick Springfield fan but that’s probably also the main intention of this release.
