Wim: Interesting band, this Brazilian combo. At first my colleague Nima received this CD by mistake but when our headquarters asked if he wanted to write a review, he politely said no. I am grateful to him. Now I got the chance to enjoy over seventy minutes of very versatile music. When listening to this CD you hear a wide range of styles which makes for a constantly changing atmosphere and mood. Musically the standard is way beyond average. Incomprehensible that these gentlemen have not scored a record deal yet because the quality of their music screams for it.
'The Elephant Truth’ is a concept album. Divided over 23 (relatively short) tracks it tells the story of a man in a coma. In the mind of a man in a coma there are many thoughts, impulses, dreams, ideas, etc. The previously mentioned continuous change of instrumentation and style describes this process in the mind of this man very powerful and precise. Especially in the first tracks of the CD the band reminds me of Voi Vod, also masters in creating atmosphere and playing pointy riffs and rhythms. But Greensleeves is more versatile. Gui Nogueira is a singer with a voice that easily adapts to the atmosphere, the emotion and power the music requires. The guitarists Victor Schmidlin and Cicero Baggio surprise with ingenious riffs and very beautiful solos (‘Come Back To Myself ','Blind By Choice’) which make me think a little of Last Crack’s guitar tandem. Marlon Marquis, finally, keeps the whole story together through his excellent drumming.
It took these guys two years to record this album. The result is absolutely worth the effort, especially considering the fact that it is a self-financed and self produced CD. Deep bow for the final result. If you have a wide scope when it comes to metal in all its forms, you certainly have to check out ‘The Elephant Truth’.
