Wilco: For a band from Slovenia, without a label, Sweet Sorrow has done well. Professional clips on Youtube, a lot of merchandise, many gigs and a new CD, namely '1000th Millennium’.
Sweet Sorrow exists since 1996 and has built up large fan bases in Slovenia, Austria and Germany. Where formerly they apparently played heavy metal, now they switched to death metal with a thick edge of Viking metal. This is primarily reflected in the texts and the ornaments on the cover.
The sound of this CD is surprisingly good, clear, not too shrill and powerful. In this way, their death metal sounds well and the influences of Amon Amarth easily noticeable. And there's an immediate reason is that this is not a topper. The band never shows their own style, this record could be issued by any act in this segment of metal. And that is unfortunate because the band knows how this music should be played. It is fierce, there is much variation, vocally too, and there are enough parts that try to make you move. Another negative point is that the band is (yet) unable to write songs that stay fascinating an entire album. It doesn’t matter how often I tried this album, it never gets really interesting and I can not keep my attention.
Anyway, as I said, it is a Slovenian band, without a label. And if you take that into consideration, you have to conclude that there is enough reason to grant these guys another try. So, do not give up, for hidden inside slumbers a promise.
