Sjak: Quite a busy guy, mister Jeff Scott Soto! Barely one month after the great W.E.T.-record, there’s a double live CD spinning its rounds in my CD player, which will by the way also be released in DVD format. The release is entitled ‘One Night In Madrid’ and it consists of an integral performance of a great show that mister Soto has done in the Spanish capital (in the Sala Heineken on the 18th of April 2009). Ever since he joined the band of Yngwie Malmsteen in the middle of the eighties, I’m a big fan of the voice of Jeff Scott Soto and especially his work with Eyes and Talisman are of very high quality in my opinion, but also his contributions to Soul Sirkus, Journey and his solo albums are just all very good.
This live double album consists of an anthology of his long lasting career and as such there are many songs played from his solo efforts, but also the necessary Talisman material. Because Jeff is surrounded by some very capable musicians like both guitar players Jorge Salan and BJ and the rhythm section Fernando Mainer (bass) and Edu Cominato (drums), he has the opportunity to show what he’s capable of vocal-wise and that’s an awful lot. Add to this that sound-wise it all fits as well and it may be obvious that this is a release which you should add to your personal collection.
