Koen: It’s been three years since we heard from the Dutch death metal masters Vermin. Their debut full-length ‘A Nihilistic Swarm’ came out in 2006 through Deity Down Records. Since then, the band spent most of their time gigging, completing the line-up (bassist Rob the Waardt, ex-Hatred and drummer in WishYouWereDead was added to the ranks) and working on new songs. The new album ‘Define ; Divine’ was once more released through Deity Down and it has become a killer album that completely fulfilled my expectations and more!
‘Define : Divine’ is undoubtfully Vermin’s best album so far. I love everything about this CD: song writing, riffs, hooks, composition, harmonies, I mean everything. For me it’s also just a perfect mix of morbid melodies and groovy hook lines, never quantifiable, stylistic sophisticated to an exclusive shape. Mind you, the production is very raw and is not studio sugar coated which may give it a “budget” feel to some listeners, but to me it works very well. The ‘I Walk Among You’ song is probably the best Dutch death metal song written this year. Never a dull moment…BUY OR DIE!
