Evoke Thy Lords - Escape To The Dreamlands
Stygian Crypt Productions

file under doom metal

Evoke Thy Lords - Escape To The DreamlandsErik: This six headed Russian doom monster has developed its style since their foundation in 2002 more towards the epic melodic doom metal, with lots of room for female vocals and keyboards. As a kind of experiment they also used Irena’s talent for playing the flute. That folky aspect was such a success that they offered her a place in the band. With just a few contributions to some Russian compilation CD’s, and two promo CD’s, Stygian Productions thought the band old and wise enough for their debut.

Since Stygian Production equals quality doom metal of the highest level, the expectations rise. And are actually met halfway. Production wise this is again a wonder in itself, but the too high My Dying Bride-esque bands influences makes this an awkward listen… I actually hoped for more originality and more of an own sound. Lyrically the band is inspired completely by H.P. Lovecraft what gives the band a personal bonus. Surely quality doom metal, but have a listen first!

Erik stigmatizes this release with: 70/100 (details)
