Sjak: ‘Fade To Black’ is the fourth album of the band Evil Masquerade, which is formed around the Danish guitar player Henrik Flyman and just like its three predecessors this again has become a very enjoyable album. The band is to be situated in the melodic power metal corner en therefore I was slightly surprised that A.O.R. label Escape Music has gotten the guts to release this, since it’s quite heavy for their standards.
Also this time mister Flyman has written ten mighty fine compositions, in which his great guitar work is featured as the most important aspect. He has however surrounded himself with a fantastic team consisting of the powerful Greek singer Apollo Papathanasio and the new rhythm section Daniel Flores (drums) and Johan Nieman (bass), of which especially Apollo adds an extra dimension to the high quality songs on offer. Whether you listen to opening track ‘Lights Out’ (on which ex-Rainbow keyboard player Tony Carey is doing a guest performance), ‘Different Shades Of Black’ or ‘Desire Of Pain’, it all sounds great, also due to the fantastic production of (again) Henrik Flyman himself. Are you looking for a combination of great songs, big guitars, powerful vocals and good melodies? Then Evil Masquerade is the band for you!
