Sincerus - Conspire (Demo) Self-financed file under prog / sympho metal
Richard G.: Music that is hard to define is always interesting. In that respect the new Dutch formation Sincerus is somewhat ahead of a lot of other bands. When a debut demo like ‘Conspire’ is filled with thirty minutes of material and provided with a neat digipack, the band prospects look even brighter.
This trio literally throws an enormous variety of influences in the mix that may or may not prove to combine that well. The foundation is laid by some sturdy death metal riffing. A small list of elements that an unsuspecting listener might encounter: symphonic keyboards, a thin layer of industrial/electro, progressive guitar bits, rhythmically strange transitions, weird grooves, programmed drums, classically tinged female background choir vocals, a hoarse male scream, esoteric clean vocals, a grunt that sounds as a shy LG Petrov (Entombed), pretty catchy choruses and even a guitar solo by Sander Gommans (ex-After Forever). And I probably missed a few…
With respect to the genre and style mixing one might compare Sincerus to that other act from the lower countries: Oceans Of Sadness. I have to admit that it is not really my cup of tea. It all still sounds a bit too chaotic and the compositions do not sound ‘logical’ (yet). There may be two reasons for this: (1) the band has not been in existence for that long, it is a debut after all, (2) the band is way ahead of her time. In both cases time will tell what Sincerus’ place in the metal scene will be! No score
