Point-Blank - Execution (Demo) Self-financed file under death metal / grindcore
Ramon: Since the release of their debut demo ‘Gattling Gun Manifest’ in 2007 the band has not been sitting still. To start with, the line-up has changed and with some fresh blood, their second demo is reason to believe that some sort of growth has happened. But actually, that’s hardly worth mentioning. Not that that’s a bad thing or anything, but one would expect more change in two years time.
Point-Blank pay an homage to early 90s death metal and that didn’t start sounding any different in the last two years either. Now that you know that they play about the same thing they used to do, with somewhat more interesting guitar parts and tight drums, all you need to know now is what you might get, if you were to purchase this demo.
Scandinavian bands often find a way to come up with something special. Point-Blank inflict their hooks in elder times and the comparison with Swedish bands from the early nineties is undeniable. The music rages on nicely, deep roaring grunts, all in all a nice piece of metal as you might expect. The main difference compared to the prior release is the production, which has had a great deal more attention. Furthermore, it seems clear that they have made the booklet themselves, which I think is sort of charming, always. It’s an eager band, really, with a lot of love for metal and a clear vision about how they want it to sound: traditional. And they manage to achieve just that. I’m sufficiently entertained with the songs ‘Death March’, title song ‘Execution’ (which is indeed the best one), ‘While You Bleed’ and ‘Harvest Of Death’.
