Sjak: This ‘Made In Hong Kong (And Various Other Places) contains for the biggest part a live impression of the one and a half year that they spent together “on the road”. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to review the most interesting part of this release, being the DVD with the tour documentary, simply because I only receive the CD-part. This review is as such purely base on this CD-part, on which you can find eleven tracks, of which as stated earlier the majority consists of live recordings from various places during their 2008 world tour.
All the live material is coming from the ‘Dark Passion Play’ album and singer Anette Olzon therefore sounds great on this material which was written for her voice. Great performances of ‘Bye Bye Beautiful’, ‘Whoever Brings The Night’, ‘Amaranth’, ‘The Poet And The Pendulum’, ‘Sahara’, ‘The Islander’, ‘Last Of The Wilds’ and ‘7 Days To The Wolves’ are passing by and, supported by a crystal clear sound, listening to this is certainly a nice way to pass the time. After the live part we get two studio tracks being ‘Escapist’ and ‘While Your Lips Are Still Red’ and also a demo version of ‘Cadence Of The Last Breath’. With all this ‘Made In Hong Kong (And Various Other Places)’ is a nice appetizer for a possible new Nightwish album.
