Remorse - Awaiting Your Death (Mini-CD)
Sixkiller Records

file under speed / thrash metal

Remorse - Awaiting Your DeathNima: The fact that the Netherlands have been a great soil for metal bands is almost as old as metal itself and especially in the past few years the Dutch have shown brought forth many interesting bands from all metal corners.

From now on we can also consider Remorse as and interesting newcomer in the Dutch extreme metal scene. As many of their colleagues Remorse started as a cover band playing classics by Venom, Metallica and Anthrax. Fortunately the band has also kept on working on their material, which has resulted in this E.P. With ‘Awaiting Your Death’ the band delivers five thrashy compositions that could have easily been from the eighties and the beginning of the nineties. The opening and also title track contains simple, mid-tempo riffing and sounds rather plump. This song mostly reminds me of the fellow countrymen Gorefest and despite the simple character sounds rather convincing.

From the next track on the band keeps the simple approach, but with a higher tempo. These songs slightly recall the atmosphere of Venom and Celtic Frost, but especially remind of Carnivore (and therefore also the heavier work of Goddess Of Desire). This has mostly to do with the heavy, rough vocals of singe Ser. Besides that the E.P. has gained the right (read: old-fashioned) sound that creates a great feeling of nostalgia.

Those who are familiar with the mentioned bands know that they can expect a tasty headbang-attack with a high mosh-value and that is exactly what Remorse delivers. So don’t expect overproduced, technical drivel, but simple and honest metal! I truly hope we keep hearing more of this band!
