Sammath - Verwoesting / Devastation
Folter Records

file under death metal / grindcore

Sammath - Verwoesting / DevastationArjan: You’ve probably seen it before, CDs decorated with slogans such as “correct listening at maximum volume”. So I thought I’d grease my ears with the new Sammath. Totally unaware of what was to come I turned the volume to the utter right and pushed “play”. A bunch of total brutal and hyper-intense Death Metal filled not only my house, but also the village. Death Metal? I knew this for some time already, but Sammath has really turned another direction, and almost never sounds like the debut ‘Strijd’ on ‘Verwoesting / Devastation’. The music sounds very intense because of the countless measure-, tempo- and riff-changes and especially because of the drum loops. It sounds like a lot of time was spent on the programming of the drums. Countless breaks, rhythms, riffs and interruptions. There’s so much diversity, literally every measure is different. The guitar parts almost never sound like other bands’ and double cheers and beer for the FRETLESS bass. That’s what I call bass playing. The album was recorded at home and you can hear it, and of course it could have sounded (even more) brutal had it been recorded using professional material but that is something for the future. Concluding: the new Sammath is one ‘helluva’ DEVASTATION. My speakers have been blown to pieces, I won’t rate this album but I recommend every underground freak to do the same.
