Apostle Of Solitude - Sincerest Misery Northern Silence Productions file under doom metal
Erik: After the band The Keep dissolved in 2004, Chuck Brown (who also had a position as drummer with The Gates Of Slumber) conceived the idea to start a band called Apostle Of Solitude. The story behind the name: someone or something living in full devoting of something he/they believe in and trusts. Quite appropriate I’d think for a doom band or doom adept. After a few line-up changes their debut ‘Sincerest Misery’ is a fact and spins in my player.
The album is inspired by the old way of playing doom metal: straight forward, no tricks and full of standard heavy metal riffs. The vocals are not extremely powerful but express the hopelessness and loneliness well. And, major plus on the release, are the twin solos! Who does them these days!? And why aren’t there more bands doing this? Just listen to ‘Confess’, a quite boring and too long song but great because of the twin guitars weeping! It lifts the song up! And as negative I sound, as positive I am that these songs will do splendid live! These songs will be perfect for a great night of drenching beer, wallowing in sorrow, bending and flexing your neck muscles with no worries in the world. Studio wise, well, it just does not keep me amused for so long. The vinyl version of this CD (and the promo copy, lucky me!) contains no less than three bonus songs that appeared on their ‘Embraced By Death’ demo. That alone for sure grades this release some points up. Erik stigmatizes this release with: 75/100 (details)
