Eddy: Being an editor for a metal magazine can be very rewarding work. You get to know bands which you might not have gotten to know at all. Cloudscape is one of those bands that I got to know thanks to my job with Lords Of Metal. Their self-titled debut that was released in 2005, the follow up ‘Crimson Skies’ which came one year later and now their third treat to the metal audience, ‘Global Drama’ which is released on the day that I am writing this down, are real treats for heavy ears. People who are into Queensryche, Dream Theater, Evergrey and Symphony X, to name just a few will surely be delighted by this one.
This Swedish band has got all the ingredients that are necessary in order to be interesting for a Lords Of Metal reading crowd. First of all the compositions are without exception all big audio-adventures on their own. Each song brings you to a higher level and will leave you with your mouth open. Did they really do that? What kind of intelligence was needed for composing this song? Another prerequisite for this kind of music is of course a collection of capable musicians. No lack of that in this band with two awesome guitar-players named Bjorn Eliasson and Patrik Svärd (who also played on albums of AOR bands Alyson Avenue and Second Heat). Next to those two there are two other powerful players who are responsible for the tight and thunderous rhythm-section, bass-player Haynes Pherson and drummer Roger Landin (also played in those two fine AOR bands I mentioned, together with guitarist Patrik). The icing on the cake is provided by vocalist Mike Andersson, a vocalist with the roar of a lion and vocal chords made of the hardest steel. Hearing him sing the twelve super-tunes are an adventure on its own. Never will this dude bore you with bland singing, his range goes all the way from low to high, the other way around and back again. The strong rhythms and riffs and the beautiful keyboards fills by singer Mike and guitarist Bjorn complete the twelve treats on Cloudscape’s third album. I would only be able to offer you my personal highlights on this CD by copy/pasting the entire track list of this album, I guess that should say enough.
