Inward - Ruins Of Inland Aura Mystique Productions file under death metal / grindcore
Roel F.: Inward; not the catchiest name for a death metal band. Well, it is something different from the gore inspired names. When this disc is spinned, it is not the most sparkling death metal being blasted into the atmosphere, and that is meant in a positive way. It is either calmer and slower death metal or a faster variant that just passes by in a certain relaxing way, but always with great demonic vocals. There is tension there (especially on the tracks ‘Fallen Godman’ and ‘Ashes Of Humanity’), and on the whole it sometimes reminds of Usipian when it comes to the album’s feel, only more epical, bordering on a likeness to Aeternus but with a melancholic twist.
It is obvious this band used to play black metal, as the slower and depressing character has been maintained. A bit similar to Krieg’s more miserable tunes as heard on ‘The Black House.’ Inward’s ‘Ruins Of Inland’ is quite entertaining, especially after repeated spins. Rating: 75/100 (details)
