Murderplan - Let’s Roll
Ascent Records

file under death metal / grindcore

Murderplan - Let’s RollDennis: Death metal and politics, I don’t really find that a good combination. Three Swedish musicians, Fredrik Söderlund (Puissance, Parnassus), Pal Callmer (Supraload) and Arnold Lindberg (Supraload) apparently think different. In the lyrics of their new band Murderplan they share their view about world politics, in particular the downfall of a civilisation called The United States and the entire western world. So this is not your average blood drenched death metal band.

Musicwise, Murderplan take us back to the mid ninetees, to a time when melodic Swedish death metal was upcoming. Söderlund and co take a rock n’ roll approach and mix brutal Swedish death metal with the more melodic side of Swedish death metal, balancing between bands like Dismember, Arch Enemy, Incapacity or The Everdawn. Listening to Murderplan, you’ll hear a lot of familiar riffs and rhythms, well executed and well performed. Guitarist Pal Callmer plays some of the catchiest riffs and soaring melodic leads, while drummer Arnold Lindberg places some good old death ‘n roll drums under this layer of riffs. The vocals of Söderlund are spit out in a razorsharp fashion. Murderplan definitely isn’t the most original band, but like I mentioned before, the songs are well written and well executed. ‘Let’s Roll’ therefore is a very pleasant ride for fans of Swedish death metal in general, and absolutely worth checking out.
