Sir Blastalot: When I read the booklet of this record, I kind of got an idea already what kind of thing Nefarium would be and I was quite close. This Italian foursome plays furious black metal in a typical Swedish style, think of Marduk, Dark Funeral and their allies. And I am quite happy since these gentlemen know how to play and really good also but alas! I am not really impressed and you want to know why people? The music is fast, fast and even more fast and at a certain point it is getting quite annoying.
It is not bad to have some calmer parts in the music, not at all! It gives the song a better structure and the faster parts have a much bigger impact this way. By the way, Chaq Mol (known for Dark Funeral) and Infaustus (Setherial) are guest musicians on this album but to be honest, it really does not add anything to the music, I would rather hear them in their own bands. So you see, being a good musician and having a great production does not have to help! I can recommend this band to fans of the bands I mentioned earlier but I can not guarantee they will like it. I am a big fan of them and this band just does not do it for me. Gentlemen, dose the speed, calm down and you will make it!
