Roel F.: ‘Fracture’ is the third demo by a young band from Sweden that goes by the name of Planet Rain. They play melodic death metal with some rock influences without sounding too much like Soilwork, In Flames or even Hypocrisy. And that is quite something. What stands out is that the production is quite in order for a demo, even though the sound could have benefited form more clarity, so it would have packed a bigger punch. A second noticeable element is the usage of keyboards. Despite the fact that they are kept in check and at some points even add some depth, the question remains what the added value of keys is for an essentially non-symphonic band. A matter of personal taste, so it seems.
The music on ‘Fracture’ tastefully varies between slower/atmospheric and speed with the occasional blast beat, whilst retaining the melodic basis. It is likely that this band will get signed soon: this band has some interesting ideas and they know how to handle their instruments. Try to buy this demo and at least listen to the tracks on the website.
