The Arcane Order - In The Wake Of Collisions
Metal Blade

file under death metal / grindcore

The Arcane Order - In The Wake Of CollisionsPatrick: The Danish band The Arcane Order gave their fans a little warning after they were done with the recording of their new cd ‘In The Wake Of Collisions’: “This album is not the natural follow up to ‘The Machinery Of Oblivion’. We always said we weren't interested in just making a new ‘Machinery ...’ album and we think the new album proves just that. We have evolved as a team, as a band, and you will be able to hear so.”

And it has to be said: the Danish quintet know what they are talking about. This ‘In The Wake Of Collisions’ is indeed far from an automatic follow-up of their previous album ’The Machinery Of Oblivion’. It has become a search after a more extreme completeness and this is exactly how this new album has turned out Tracks like ‘The Serpent Tower’, ‘Unleash The Tyrant’ and ‘Death Is Imminent’ are absolutely a little more excessive, have a slighter darker way and contain a little less thrash. The structure of the songs is more complicated; you could almost speak of an approach like Strapping Young Lad. Some things have remained the same, fortunately. The carcass from every song is still a combination of thrash and death. Next to it the band has retained to melody, but they knew to place it very subtle between and/or behind blast beats and carrying riffs; they never have a central position and are ‘just’ serving to the atmosphere of the songs. The execution of the songs is beyond reproach; the drumming is still very tight and fast, Flemming shows he still knows how to shred and vocalist Kasper is again using a lot of rawness and intensity for the vocals, although he seems to be using a little more variation.

An impeccable demonstration of melody, technique en musical aggression, resulting in a devastating modern metal album? This album even beats the far from miserable debut album! All I can say is: obliged purchase!
