Zwartketterij - Cult Of The Necro-Trasher
Displeased Records

file under speed / thrash metal

Zwartketterij - Cult Of The Necro-TrasherNima: YES!!! Old school thrash metal from Dutch and Belgian soil! This quartet does not joke around and clearly makes a statement that according to them eighties metal is the only thing that counts. Cloaked in leather and jeans, bullets, studs and paint, these four maniacs treat us to eight true thrash metal compositions from the glory days. You know, fast riffing, razor sharp sound a la Celtic Frost and early Bathory, the chaos of Venom and a load of sick vocals. But don’t expect any “nihilistic-as-fuck” songs, because although the songs are nihilistic, they’re well composed and the arrangements and performance is rather convincing. Enthusiasm and joy of playing is fully audible and the raw and dirty sounding vocals of Jack Hellfire give the songs a grim black metal edge and unleash your uncivilized aggressive inner self. The album has also got a fitting production without having any influence on the power. After hearing this record, I definitely have to find the band’s debut album ‘Sodomizer Dirty Sodomizer’.

Although I’m pretty convinced and overwhelmed by this album, I must point out to the “weaknesses” as well. The clean vocals that are represented in every song are simply too average and nagging, which suck the power out of the songs. That’s a damned shame if you ask me, because although Jack Hellfire’s grim vocals are quite monotonous, they don’t sound troublesome at all. So diversity in the vocals was not really necessary. Next time no clean vocals please. But for the rest ‘Cult Of The Necro-Thrasher’ is a worthy addition to the collection of every old school thrash and speed metal fan. But the ones who are in search of renewal, diversity and/or smooth production, should keep their hands off this record.
