<< Interviews this month

During the concert of Fluisterwoud and others at the Goudvishal in Arnhem recently I recognised Nimroth, vocalist for the Dutch black metal band Cirith Gorgor, among the audience. During their concert of March this year at the Baroeg in Rotterdam I became very impressed by their performance. I especially admired their charismatic vocalist. This said it's obvious I did not hesitate to introduce myself and start a little conversation with Nimroth. After some initial surprise he recognised me from my review and we had a little chat. Below you will find a representation of it.

How are things with Cirith Gorgor?
We are currently busy with our new CD entitled "Firestorm Apocalypse - tomorrow shall know the blackest dawn." It just has to be mixed and we intend to release it within a short period of time through Painkiller Records. Because of a change in our line-up (Astaroth Daemonum is replaced by Inferno) and some difficulties in finding a new label, some delay has risen. The new CD will probably be released February next year.
What's the situation in Holland like for bands looking for a record deal?
We have been quite spoiled by Osmose. We got a record deal relatively fast and a good one too. We simply cannot take a step back, we intend to move on and grow. The distribution was very good at Osmose, let's hope it will be the same with our new label.
And how about your latest single 'Through Woods Of Darkness And Evil'?
The single appeared in a limited amount of 666 copies at Ketzer Records/Regimental Records and is currently sold out. So I guess it was well received.
Can you earn a living with Cirith Gorgor?
No. Practically each band member has a job outside the band. That's why we cannot do an extensive tour. We can't take that much time off from our jobs.
What do you do?
I work as a primary school teacher. It's a job I studied for and I like to do it. I consciously have to keep both worlds apart, they do not mix easily. Dealing with infants is a thing I like to be doing. At that age they tend to listen to you and do what you ask them to. I would not like to teach teenagers. I know how I behaved at that age and I don't think it would be good for the children if I would have to deal with them.
What do you think of the evening so far?
Fluisterwoud is a very good black metal band. They play convincing and enthusiastically. Too bad their singer doesn't add to the show. Forgotten Tomb doesn't really fit in with the rest of the line-up. I think them technically very good. I can recommend you Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult (who still have to begin their show). They play black metal with which we identify ourselves very strongly. They are very heavy! By the way, I am here as a metal head and not as the singer of Cirith Gorgor. I like to check out other bands, but I come here mainly to enjoy myself with good music.
I thanked Nimroth for our little conversation. During Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult I saw him again. He asked my opinion and I agreed with him. With a look of self-confidence and 'I told you so' he enjoyed the rest of the performance by this intense black metal band. By the way, Cirith Gorgor are booked for the following two shows in Holland: January 9 at the Pazzop in Bladel with Axis Of Advance, Witchmaster and Unpure, 13 march at JC de Bunker in Gemert with Walpurgisnacht. Be sure to catch them!!!
