Although ‘1st Class Suïcide’ is the first Mörser album that I heard zo far I understood that your debut ‘Two Hours Of Doom’ is mainly accepted as the best Mörser album until now. It was an album that influenced a lot of people in 1997. Is this correct? What can you tell us about that part of the Mörser history? Well, the first LP was more like a project with the aim to do the most aggressive and chaotic LP ever. Therefore we recruited all of our friends we always wanted to do music with and started to practise. If this LP influenced a lot of people, I don’t know, but it is nice to hear! I only know that a lot of people say that ‘Two Hours Of Doom’ is the best Mörser LP we ever did and this was the motivation to make a new album with songs more like the old stuff.
And how would you compare the new album ‘1st Class Suicide’ to the older albums from the band? Is it still in the same vein as always? Or is it even better? It’s better! The songwriting is more complex than the old stuff but as aggressive and chaotic. That’s how I think. I know there are some reviews criticising that the whole album is getting boring after the first songs. I don’t think so. I heard people saying “that’s enough” or “I’m fed up” after listening the album. But in a positive way!
What can you tell us about the concept of the new album? How are the lyrics and the cover connected? What is the story behind the topics of ‘1st Class Suicide’ There is not a real concept! We made the songs, Gunnar from Blutbagger Artworks offered his help with the artwork and that’s it. Besides the title has its story. Daniel, screaming-voice of Mörser had his own cocktail-bar named 1st Class Suicide. We thought this would be a good title for a new Mörser album!
You’re line up has got the unconventional number of seven members. Three of them do vocals. I guess that this means that you have a lot to argue about? And how do you solve issues? The strongest wins? Yes, that’s due to the fact that we once decided to do a band with a lot friends together. And of course we have to argue about a lot of things. The main problem we have is to organise shows within the band. Each of us has its job, some have a child, That’s why we are doing not much shows a year. And of course because we are old!
Germany has a big reputation when it comes to standard heavy metal or thrash metal bands. But what about the more grind orientated bands? Are there some acts that we absolutely must know about? Sorry, but I don’t know. I’m definitely the wrong member of Mörser to answer this question.
Mörser is asking fans to write reviews about the new album so you can present them via your MySpace site. This is of course a good idea. But it also could happen that people write down words that would be negative. Would you also present those reviews? How open minded are you about critics? Well, it’s okay if somebody doesn’t like what we do. I really can imagine that somebody listens to different music. That’s okay! I don’t like everything either! But to be interested in opinions of somebody else doesn’t mean that we change our style because of critic. We make music, we like, if there is somebody who likes it too. Perfect!
And while we are on the subject of good and bad. What three death metal / grind core albums are totally overrated and why? That’s easy to say. I don’t know and I don’t want to decide about a good album or band or a bad. If there are people listening to a band, feeling good why should I tell them the band is shit?
If people are getting curious about Mörser by now they can check you out on internet. But it is of course better to see the band in action. Are there any live gigs planned? And perhaps also in the Netherlands? Definitely it is better to visit a show! With seven members on a stage, its always like a party! And we try to have a good evening and everybody is invited to join us. Next chance to see Mörser is on a festival, 25.06. and in Hamburg 07.08. and we will play the Bloodsheet festival in Eindhoven 02.10. If somebody likes to do a show with Mörser feel free to ask!
Okay guys. That’s it for me. I wish you all the best for ‘1st Class Suicide’ and I guess that you have some famous last words for us? Argh, damn, the famous last words... Come to see us playing live... No, that’ss not good... Buy the new album... Bullshit… Germany won’t win the world cup in South Africa... Maybe thats it! Thanx for the interview!
