Fifteen questions from Horst. A new and exciting column on Lords Of Metal in which we ask the Metal artists something else for a change than the cliché things about new albums and tours. Rules of the game: I’ve got a list with 50 questions. For each different artist I personally select 15 of ‘m which they may answer. It’s also possible to ignore my list, and just ad random choose 15 numbers ranging from 1 to 50, and answer the questions under those particular numbers. Victim this month: Chris Impellitteri…

In which land besides your own country would you like to live for a year?
Well, let’s see… Definitely Europe.
Hmmm, that’s not really a country…but what do like specifically about Europe than?
I would probably like to live for a year in the UK, just to have euhh… you know what? Scratch that! I think perhaps I would like to live in Italy, for the sake of my heritage, which is Italian. But also for the climate, the country, and if that doesn’t work out, then I’ll probably go to the south of France.
But what is more special about Europe than let’s say Australia, South-America or whatever?
Well, Australia is too far, South-America too many snakes, so I probably have to stick with Europe hahaha.
If you are allowed to chose another job, what would it be?
Probably actor. I like drama, I like the artistic environment.
Which piece of art (either a book, painting, sculpture, song or a CD) would you like to have made?
Well, I can honestly tell you that I do not know a lot about art, as far as in painting or sculpting goes, so that is out of the question. But a song, musicwise… you know, there are a lot of songs I really like, so that is a difficult question. Let me think about some of my favorite stuff here… I definitely like listening to bands that sound like they painted a picture, I would like to think of something like ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen, ‘Live And Let Die’ by Wings, that kind of stuff I really enjoy a lot. So I probably have to choose between those two songs.
Do you rather hang out with man or woman?
A woman!
Any specific reasons?
I like girls!
Of which company or institute would you like to be general-manager?
Probably Ferrari. I like my cars fast you know, and if I was general-manager there I would get myself a nice F-50 hahaha.
Most artists I talk to always want to be chief of Microsoft…
I was gonna say that, but it was too predictable. Anyway, I would only like to be Bill Gates for the money.
Hey, that’s a novelty. Most of your fellow musicians want to shut Microsoft down, because they are not so happy with the way Bill Gates does business.
Yeah, very monopoly, but that’s why he is so rich. But the problem you see is not so much Bill Gates, it is the government and the lawyers. The lawyers allow him to control that market because of his copyright. And if lawyers would threw that away – like in ‘that is no fair practice’ – then this business would be open to all new people.
What is it in people which annoy you the most?
Pretensions, fake. You know, pretending to be something they are not. That annoys me! That and bad drivers hahaha.
Any examples?
Yeah, like people who drive in the fast lane about ten miles an hour and you can’t get around them…
Which part in which movie would you like to have played?
Mission Impossible, Tom Cruise his part. It looks like fun. I mean, he has got a lot of exciting toys to play with. I guess I am a real sucker for ‘toys for boys’.
Are there, according to you, subjects where people shouldn't joke about, or make fun of?
I don’t like people making fun of handicapped people. I think everything else, I think people make a joke of it is because it makes it easier to deal with, but I don’t like it if they are hateful ore spiteful.
I guess racist jokes are also out of the question?
No, sometimes racist jokes are funny. They are not so nice, but sometimes they are so funny. I think you have to understand they are not specifically about one person. If someone told me a racist Italian joke I would laugh. I would not be offended.
Which TV show should be removed immediately from the screen?
Hahahahahaha, I like that question! How about ‘The Bachelor’?
‘The Bachelor’? Never heard of it.
Well, that’s that new TV show in America, which is very popular. It’s about a rich guy who gets to choose a wife from about 30 or 40 women. The guy is really rich, I mean, he has got everything, he is good-looking.. it’s just a stupid show. I hate it!
But I was kinda expecting you would say something like Jerry Springer and crap like that…
Oh yeah, that can go too. That guy is an idiot.
We know, we got that show over here also.
Oh no!
Oh yeah. And let me put it this way, when I see shows like that I can’t help but asking myself: ‘Are all those Americans brain-dead or something?’
Yes!
Okay, fair enough.
You know, the most popular shows in America, you know what they are? The biggest shows on cable television are the WWF wrestling shows. Those are the biggest, but man, it is such a joke! Now a lot of viewers think it is real, and they are real passionate about it. But people on Jerry Springer, now that is a different breed. Those are not true people in America.
In which other period in time would you have lived?
I would have to say the year 3500. Everybody wants to go backwards, but I would like to go forwards.
And what do you expect to find there?
I don’t know. Maybe a bright future for mankind, otherwise it is gonna be a pretty empty planet. I think it would be pretty cool to see how far technology goes.
Well, I can relate to that, but like you said, most people want to go backwards, and the Viking age is pretty popular lately.
Oh, fuck that! The Viking age is too fucking cold, the winter is brutal!
You're allowed to invite four persons, also dead ones, for a dinner-party. Who would they be?
Jesus Christ would be a good one, he would have pretty much all the knowledge you probably need. Probably my mother… now who could also be interesting? Well, I’m off to a good start with those two… let’s see, who else would be good… Well, definitely Mozart and for the last… Elvis Presly!
Now I understand Mozart, for that was some composer, but Elvis? What does he mean to you?
He represents the epitome of stardom. Who did he pay? How did he get there? Because he fucking even didn’t write his own music! There is no one bigger in America than Elvis Presly, to this day he is still big. They released a ‘Best Of’ record a few weeks ago, and it was a number one on the Billboard charts for three weeks, beating everybody. But to get back to the original question, I would like to have a fifth person as well: George Washington.
Why him? Why the founding father of the USA? Are you the patriotic type?
Nope, not really, but I just want to show him what has become of our country hahaha.
You are not really happy with the was the USA turned out to be then?
No, I think it is a fucked-up country. I think that Americans quite often, we claim to be a self-righteous, honorable country, but if you think about it truly our country is basically all about greed. You got people in our country saying like: ‘We are Americans, we love everybody’, but in fact they want all of the money, all of the control, they want everything. So I am wondering what Washington would think about what has happened to his country. I mean, no one wants to be poor, but I don’t like the fact that some people just don’t know ‘when is enough’. When you have a guy like Bill Gates, who has like 70 billion dollars, when is enough? I mean, you can never, ever, ever spend that, ever. You can buy mansions every day, you can buy human beings every day and still never run out of money.
Okay, but for arguments sake: If you where as rich as he was, what would you do with the money then?
Oh, I would give it to the poor and the sick, I would give as much money as possible to the poor people and to the sick people, to find cures to diseases. The poor, I would try to solve the problem, to feed as many as possible, to find work for them. You know, help everybody, and of course I would enjoy the money to hahaha, I don’t know what I would do with it, but I definitely would have a big smile on my face. I have got a smile on my face now, but with 70 billion dollars? That would be a very big smile.
What has been your most frightening experience?
Every time I fly. I hate it. I don’t wanna die on a plane, I am always terrified. That is my most frightening experience.
That is quite a handicap when you are a rock star…
Yeah, a big handicap and you know what? The guy that lives across the street where I just bought a new house? He is a pilot, and he just came back from flying Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers on tour (he flies private jets), and when looking at him it seems that he so likes doing it, and I almost need drugs to fly, it is almost pathetic.
What was your biggest offence or crime in your life?
Biggest offence or crime? You know, I never really have got in trouble for something, I really haven’t committed any crimes. Apart from the speeding tickets hahaha…
