ENSLAVED guitarist Ivar Bjørnson has been announced as one of the curators of Roadburn Festival 2015 alongside WARDRUNA's Einar Kvitrafn Selvik. As curators, both Ivar and Einar will personally select the bands for their curated Roadburn event, named ‘Houses of the Holistic’, and play special shows with ENSLAVED and WARDRUNA respectively as well. The Norwegian pair, both former Roadburn performers, have played an important role in bringing together the past, present and future sounds of hard rock, progressive metal, and alternative scenes, which makes them the ideal choice to carry on the tradition that began in 2008. One of the most hard-hitting and progressive bands to come out of Norway, ENSLAVED has drawn other musical genres and artistic expressions into the realm of metal, while being recognized for merging tradition and modernity in a unique blend of rock, prog and black metal, earning them Spellemann Awards (Norwegian Grammys) for much acclaimed and groundbreaking albums such as »Isa« (2004), »Ruun« (2006), and »Vertebrae« (2008) among others. ENSLAVED 's performance, dubbed ‘House of Northern Gods’, will consist of a set list specially put together for ‘Houses of the Holistic’, featuring songs from the band's entire catalogue that embody the Norse gods, with accompanying visuals created by revered Romanian artist, Costin Chioreanu. Be prepared for a surprise or two, or even more.

Ivar Bjørnson comments: “To say that my dream as a kid was to one day curate the Roadburn Festival would perhaps be to take it a tad too far – but it isn’t that far from the truth. There’s some ridiculously big shoes to fill, but luckily negative pressure, idea draught and performance anxiety aren’t something I’m into. It is my favourite festival in one of my favourite parts of the world; so this is nothing short of one the biggest honours I’ve been given! It is a privilege to undertake this challenge in twosome with Einar; an artist I truly feel in tune with artistically and philosophically – now it is all about hard work and dedication to ensure that the audience and the festival itself is given a Friday to enjoy, experience and remember. I for one can’t wait!”

Roadburn Festival 2015 will run for four days from Thursday, April 9 to Sunday, April 12, 2015 at the 013 venue in Tilburg, The Netherlands. ‘Houses of the Holistic’, co-curated by Ivar Bjørnson will take place on Friday, April 10, 2015.

Burning Point recruited a new singer and a new keyboardist. “2009 when we parted ways with Pasi (Hiltula), we decided we would continue without an “official” player in the band and use a “hired gun” in the gigs. Jarkko (Väisänen) was our first choice and he has been with us for a while now. He is a solid player and really cool guy to be with. We are very happy that he decided to join BP ranks as an official keyboardist", band states. Pete also decided to step down from the lead-vocalist position and continue as a guitarist. “Well, it has been a one helluva ride for 15 years to handle both, vocals and guitar, but now we thought it was time to try something totally new. I love playing and singing live, I love to be on the spotlight…but also I want the band to be in constant motion and moving forward", says Pete. “Nitte is perfect choice as a new frontma…oh woman : ), very powerful voice and an awesome stage performer!” “These guys are awesome and the music, just great! I love all the Burning Point songs! I’ve been away from the world of heavy metal for a while now, but now with these guys, I am back! I’m very excited and anxious to start recording the new stuff and just waiting to be on stage with Burning Point", Nitte explains. The Band will start recording the new album within two weeks and the working title is "Polttopiste". More news coming very soon, stay fired up! http://www.burning-point.com

Twice a year, on the rugged island of Kodiak, Alaska, a select group of hunters head into the wilderness for the ultimate test against the elements and the largest land predator on Earth — the Kodiak brown bear. Narrated by James Hetfield, the voice of METALLICA, "The Hunt" is an eight-episode series that documents one of the most dangerous pursuits known to man. The series premiered on June 8 on the History channel and the fifth, sixth and seventh episodes, "Ambushed", "Death Charge" and "In The Crosshairs", respectively, can now be seen at History.com. A petition was launched online in May calling for the removal of METALLICA as headliners at last month's Glastonbury festival in the U.K. after it was announced that Hetfield was hosting "The Hunt". METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett addressed the petition during an interview with Kerrang! magazine, saying: "I mean, this whole animal activist thing? Really? It's ridiculous. They fucking sell hamburgers at Glastonbury, alright? Tell these people that they're looking under the wrong fucking rock." The 50-year-old Hetfield, who is a member of the National Rifle Association and an avid hunter, has been known to travel around the world to take part in shooting expeditions. METALLICA was the first metal act to ever headline Glastonbury in the festival's 44-year history and closed the show on June 28.

According to AC/DC Collector, a rare copy of AC/DC's debut Australian single, "Can I Sit Next To You, Girl", backed with "Rockin' In The Parlour", just sold on eBay for a whopping $4,471! The New Zealand-only Polydor label pressing of the single fetched this new record price on the auction site today (Wednesday, July 23). The original "Can I Sit Next To You, Girl" seven-inch vinyl came out in 1974 on Albert Productions (through EMI Australia) and is one of the most sought-after AC/DC singles ever. The track features lead vocals by AC/DC's original singer Dave Evans, who was subsequently replaced by Bon Scott. "Can I Sit Next To You, Girl" was later re-recorded with Scott on vocals for the "TNT" album.

According to the New York Daily News, UNLOCKING THE TRUTH — the heavy metal band from Flatbush, Brooklyn made up of three African American boys, 13-year-old guitarist Malcolm Brickhouse, 13-year-old bassist Alec Atkins and 12-year-old drummer Jarad Dawkins — got permission from a New York judge on Tuesday (July 22) to sign a multi-album deal with Sony. The musicians needed the judge's approval because they are minors. Supreme Court Justice Carol Edmead questioned the boys' parents to make sure that they understood the contract and had set up trust accounts for their children. She also told the boys to spend their money wisely. "No Porsches!" she said. UNLOCKING THE TRUTH entered the studio on Wednesday to record its first single, "Monster", for The Cherry Group, a division of Sony. As part of its guaranteed two-album deal with Sony, UNLOCKING THE TRUTH will receive $60,000 to record the first disc and possibly as much as $325,000 for the second CD. Sony has an option to release a total of five albums from UNLOCKING THE TRUTH that could push the label's financial investment to around $1.7 million ($325,000 for the second album, $400,000 for the third, $450,000 for the fourth and $550,000 for the fifth). It should be noted, however, that the band will only see the real money after an initial $60,000 advance if their debut album sells more than 250,000 copies, a prospect that seems highly unlikely in an age of diminishing record sales. Commenting on news reports that UNLOCKING THE TRUTH landed a "$1.7 million-dollar deal with Sony," TRIVIUM bassist Paolo Gregoletto wrote on Facebook: "The young kids that were signed got a $60,000 recording budget for their first album and have to sell 250,000 copies to receive royalties. That isn't a 1.7 million-dollar recording deal. I hope that they got a good lawyer and someone looking out for them." UNLOCKING THE TRUTH, which is now managed by "Welcome Back, Kotter" co-creator Alan Sacks, has already played the Coachella festival and has supported GUNS N' ROSES. In addition, the band has appeared in a national ad campaign for Verizon Wireless. An UNLOCKING THE TRUTH book about the band's rise to success will be released by Penguin around Christmas, and a documentary about the group's experiences is also in the works. UNLOCKING THE TRUTH credits bands such as METALLICA, SLIPKNOT, DISTURBED, CHELSEA GRIN, MOTIONLESS IN WHITE and ESCAPE THE FATE as its influences.

Voyageur Press has set an August 15 release date for "The Big Book Of Hair Metal: The Illustrated Oral History Of Heavy Metal's Debauched Decade". In this ultimate guide to the subgenre, acclaimed heavy-metal journalist Martin Popoff examines hair metal in an all-encompassing oral history jacked up by a kaleidoscope of outrageous and previously unpublished quotes, anecdotes, photos, and memorabilia. "The Big Book Of Hair Metal" features the observations of dozens of musicians, producers, promoters, label execs, and hanger-ons in examining hair metal's rise and fall as well as all the bands that kept Aqua Net in business through the Reagan recession: TWISTED SISTER, BON JOVI, POISON, MÖTLEY CRÜE, RATT, WARRANT, GREAT WHITE, WHITESNAKE, CINDERELLA, VIXEN, SKID ROW, L.A. GUNS, GUNS N' ROSES, and dozens more. In crafting a narrative of hair metal, Popoff also examines the factors that contributed to the movement's rise (including MTV, Reagan's "morning in America," and a general move toward prudish morals); the bands that inspired it (THE SWEET, NEW YORK DOLLS, ALICE COOPER, and KISS, for a start); and the scenes that nurtured it (the Sunset Strip, anyone?). The ride finally ended circa 1991, when hair metal was replaced by grunge, but what a ride it was. Here it is in all of its primped-up glory. "The Big Book Of Hair Metal" features more than the obvious and usual suspects.. The superstars and also-rans are included, and with 580 (!) photos, the depth and the number of bands and musicians featured is staggering. Nothing is left out — it's big, bold and loud like the music, telling the complete history of the music you know you STILL love.

In celebration of their thirty-year career, SEPULTURA will unleash a new live offering titled "Sepultura And Les Tambours du Bronx: Metal Veins - Alive At Rock In Rio" in North America on September 14 via Eagle Rock Entertainment. In a spectacular performance that finds SEPULTURA accompanied throughout by the French industrial percussion group LES TAMBOURS DU BRONX, notorious for beating 225-liter barrels with beech wood bats or even axe handles, the show was recorded from the band's main stage appearance at the legendary Rock In Rio festival in 2013. Featuring SEPULTURA's most revered tunes — including "Refuse/Resist", "Territory" and "Roots Bloody Roots", the latter of which sees the audience chanting the entire cut from beginning to end — the sheer volume of sound, percussive enormity and powerful presentation sets this release apart from any previous SEPULTURA concert offering to date. With a one-hour run time divided into thirteen cuts, the album also features a cover of THE PRODIGY's "Firestarter", the fan-chanted "Sepulnation" and music from the band's "Kairos" full-length. "Metal Veins - Alive At Rock In Rio" will come available on CD, DVD and for the first time in the band's history, Blu-ray via a partnership with Rock In Rio, MZA Music and Eagle Rock Entertainment. In addition, the DVD includes an exclusive documentary of behind-the-scenes preparation with interviews, rehearsal and soundcheck footage and clips of the band just seconds before they hit the stage.

BIG will announce a replacement drummer who will sit behind the kit for the band's fall 2014 tour.

METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett has revealed to RollingStone.com that he recently laid down a guitar solo on song "Salt In The Wound" on "Blood In, Blood Out", the new album from his first band, EXODUS. "It felt really casual, really cool — just like it did back in 1980 when we were all just hanging out back in the day," Hammett said. "Me, recording a solo on their album was a huge thing for me. Other than the EXODUS demo that's been heard by a lot of people, it's the only time I ever recorded with EXODUS. It was a huge thing for me." He added: "I play a pretty cool solo, and then Gary [Holt, EXODUS guitarist] comes in and plays another solo, and you know what? I listened to that and thought, 'Wow, it's 1982 all over again and here we are, Gary and I are trying to cut each other's heads off with our guitar solos.' Nothing has changed much in the last 30 years. I love it. I love those guys. I've only known them for most of my life, so I'm really happy that I finally got to record with them."

Long time Primus drummer TIM ALEXANDER (Puscifer, A Perfect Circle) recently suffered a heart attack and has had open heart surgery (July 21st). Vocalist/bassist Les Claypool has posted the following message on Facebook: "Hello all, As some of you may already know, our friend and uber drummer Tim "Herb" Alexander is having a bypass procedure to remove blockage from arteries near his heart. He is a strong Herculean fellow and we all expect him to be up and around in no time but with all surgical endeavors we want to make sure he has the best energy working for him so let's all throw our coins in the nearest fountain, wish on the first star of the night, blow out the birthday cake candles with him in mind, pray to whichever deity seems appropriate and generally send good thoughts his way so we can soon, once again, experience the glory that is the magnificent percussive rhythm of the mighty Tim Alexander."
