Hello friends and other lovers of good music. At the very moment I am writing this September nears its end and our October edition is almost ready to go online. About time therefore to think of something to fill my own monthly column with, and let me tell you: that ain't always easy. After seventeen years in the trade sometimes inspiration is a rare commodity, and even a few good glasses can't seem to bring any relief for that matter. No matter, I'll just look up what I wrote last year around this time and you'll see it's quite representative for how LoM looks like this fall. With some alterations here and there of course.
Next to the literary hundreds of new CD reviews this month also our interview section is pretty wel filled. None other than Joey Tempest (Europe), Alex Agnew (Diablo Blvd.), Eric Martin (Mr Big), Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Dead Cross, Fântomas, Suicidal Tendencies), Ivar Bjørnson (Enslaved) and Stef Broks from our own local heroes Textures where willing to chat with my colleagues, next to 24 other interesting bands and artists that released some pretty cool albums lately. For our Dutch and Belgian readers we've lined-up no less than nine great give-aways, so if you are living in or near Holland, try your luck! Our live section also pretty stuffed this month, for we covered shows from the likes of Ayreon, Metallica, Volbeat and Shining, and went to the CityRock Festivals in The Netherlands, took the ferry to Hull (England) to witness Hair Metal Heaven and even had someone present at the Beyond The Gates Festival in Bergen (Norway). And in the specials section there's enough to read about great gadgets for metal musicians, we review Brian Slagel's book about his Metal Blade and give Motörhead's Phill Campbell the opportunity to talk about his gear.
Next to that Lords Of metal also is still doing the High Voltage radio show on Arrow Classic Rock, and right now the Rocktober month is well underway. For High Voltage right now that means two regular shows to go on the 2nd and 9th of October, and then it's three shows dedicated to the High Voltage Top 25 - filled with only the best in hardrock and heavy metal. You can still help us putting that list together. All you have to do is surf to the Arrow website and fill out the form. Lots of lovely prices awaits those who entered and are drawn from the hat. Entries are accepted until October 15th, so move it or lose it! And I might add that you can see this as kind of training for the real thing: the third edition of the Lords Of Metal Top 666, for which the voting booths will open up November 1st.
So much for our state of the union this time, I’m sure you will find your way through this edition of LoM on your own. Remarks, comments, criticism, tips, information, offers, insults and applications are welcome at the familiar addresses as usual. Lords Of Metal edition 184 will be unleashed around November 1st. Until then.
IF YOU AIN'T A METALHEAD, YOU MIGHT AS WELL BE DEAD!
