John : It is very hard to make a 'positive' difference among all the extreme Metal bands. Belgian Panchrysia succeeds in doing that with their predominantly Black-based fast Metal. They sound pretty original, and not too primitive. Tempo-changes and unconventional rhythm schedules are no problem for this band. At times, they can sound very dark, which is largely due to the eerie but also fat sound, and because of the luxuriously spread dissonants in the riffs. At the right moments, beautiful solos make their entrance, that sometimes sound a bit "nagging" or too similar, however. The vocals vary from "alright" to good and genuine, and they could have been a bit more raw at times. This band is at its best in the more heavy parts, although the drummer convinces most when pounding full speed ahead. Anyway, there are plenty of reasons to listen to this recording, or to see a live performance of this band.
