Dennis : Willowtip Records released 'A Celebration of Guilt' in March 2004 in the USA. The debut album from Arsis received an overwhelming response from the American metal scene and the band toured with acts such as Misery Index, Incantation and Mortician. Arsis is ready to conquer Europe now too and hence Earache Records has just released the album here as well. Arsis consists of two musicians, James Malone (guitars / bass / vocals) and Michael van Dyne (drums) who play live with session musicians. Arsis is inspired by bands like At The Gates, the early In Flames and the later Immortal works and combines melodic death metal with black and thrash metal. The two guys clearly know what they are doing, because the eleven songs on this album are impressive. The arrangements are well thought out and the vocal lines fit in perfectly. There is room for aggressive metal, but also melodic guitarwork which makes this album highly enjoyable for every fan of the genre. As we speak the band is recording their second output 'A Diamond for Disease' and I am really curious what that is going to sound like. For now we have to be patient and enjoy the beauty of 'A Celebration of Guilt' a couple of times more. I don't think I will have a problem with that….
