Richard G. : The new master of epic black metal has risen! His name is F. Dupont and he hails from Belgium. Through his one-man band Gorath he seems to deliver the long awaited follow up to Immortal's 'At The Heart Of Winter' album, which in my eyes is the most beautiful epic black metal album, for which I haven't encountered an equal yet. On this debut album for Black Owl records, Dupont proves once again that a riff does not necessarily have to be complex to be beautiful, time and time again he succeeds in finding the right combination of notes to create the right feeling in the riff, and more importantly, he succeeds at getting that feeling across. The songs never seem to bore and the record glides by as if I'm in a dream. Highlight is closing track 'Aeons Glow In The Sun', where the 'choir singing' maybe isn't the most special feature, but it is used in such a way that it makes the song something special. The only let down really is the fifth song, an instrumental intermezzo that actually bears the title 'Instrumental Intermezzo', musically it doesn't really fit with the rest of the record. Ow and I am also deducting some points for the misplaced bonus track Britney Spears cover 'Toxic' (I know…) a joke can be fun, but you can go to far!!
