Richard G. : Capharnaum is a new band that once again tries to please the crowds with death metal Swedish style. They hail from America and they differ from their stylistic brethren and contemporaries by not implementing any hardcore influences for a change. This time heavy metal seems to have been the main inspirational source. 'Fractured' has many moments of solid heavy metal riffing, but it's the delightful melodic solos that prove best where they got their mojo. The last sing 'Refusal' even has a quiet math-metal ending to it, that to be honest doesn't really fit in with the rest of the record. The execution of the songs is tight, the material is well-constructed and nestles itself in top your brain only after a few listening sessions. Biggest letdown has to be the Slayer-esque 'length' of 25, almost 26 minutes, which is rather short nowadays for a full-length album. I really wouldn't have minded if they had taken twice as much time here!
