Wim S. : It is a bit of a search on the internet to learn more about Slug Comparison. After some research, I found out that Slug Comparison is the band of singer/guitarist Doug Harrison, who some of you will know from the band Fen (no, not the black metal band). With Slug Comparison, a trio that consists of drummer Randall Stoll and bassist Mike Young, Harrison plays accessible poprock of the radio-friendly kind.
The songs on this CD When You Were Living Here are pretty easy to listen to. They all clock between three and five minutes, are well-structured and often have a sing-along, catchy chorus. We hear no earth-shattering things on this album, but just twelve songs from a good musician who makes little effort to become famous. Warning to the rockers among us: this album has nothing to do with metal and also very little with (heavy) rock. Sometimes an atmosphere is created that is reminiscent of the dark, acoustic work of Alice In Chains (the title track) and only once Harrison uses his distortion pedal (So Ya Got A Great Guitar). Personally I find fragile songs like Hold Of You and Beings Far Away very beautiful. A fine pop album.
