Sjak : About one and a half year ago the traditional metal band Steel Shock positively surprised me with their debut album For Metal To Battle, which proved to be a true wet dream for anyone that adores bands like Manowar, Virgin Steele and Manilla Road. Luckily they did not rest on their laurels since then and already now successor With Fire & Steel is available. They (luckily) continue with what they have been doing on For Metal To Battle and therefore the eighties fans will again definitely be able to appreciate this. And rightfully so, as all elements for a great record are present in abundance, like the tight riffs, the lovely drumming and the fine vocals
Of course there will be lots of negative people that will call this old fashioned and archetypical, but those obviously did not get the intention of Steel Shock, because the glorification of the old-school metal is just what it is all about with founding members Martjo Brongers and Nima Sadeghi. Tunes like Metal Avengers, Desolation Angels and The Battle Rages On (With Fire & Steel Pt. II) to name just a few are able to make my old metal heart tick a lot faster and as a matter of fact that accounts for the complete album as there is no weak track to be found here, which is a feat in itself. The enthusiasm of the band truly bursts out of the speakers and therefore I cannot do anything else than conclude that this With Fire & Steel had become a very worthy successor of For Metal To Battle and as such is a very worthwhile purchase. However, there are not too many albums available, so you really have to act fast here! At least you will get an excellent record in return!
