William Pezy : Blackdraft was founded somewhere in 2015 when members from various local bands joined forces in the beautiful city of Hamburg. In 2016 the band released its first album by themselves. Because of the many good reviews Danish label Mighty Music signed the band. The second album was written within two years and became an intriguing album with interesting compositions. Musically there are very nice symphonic rock melodies that are interchange with heavy progmetal riffs that are accompanied by the growls of singer Karsten. However most vocal parts are brought by singer Julia who is able to bring a wide vocal range. At one point she brings sweet parts and on the other moments she shows quite extreme vocals. The concept album tells the story of the young researcher Runa Ágústsson from Hamburg, who sets off for Iceland to start a journey into the deep sea from there. Over the course of her adventure she meets strong, strange and eerie characters as well as fantastic deep-sea creatures and takes the listeners into the cold abysses filled with evil secrets. With this second album Blackdraft brings us a very nice statement of a band to take into consideration.
